The rural parish of Sparkwell
lies within the south western tip of The South Hams in South Devon, United Kingdom. The
South Hams is an area of outstanding beauty.
The Parish of Sparkwell consists of four villages, and three hamlets; with a population of
1100.
The Parish church is dedicated to all the Saints.
All Saints Church, Sparkwell was originally built as a 'Chapel Of Ease' to the mother
church of Plympton Saint Mary, in 1859. In 1884 however, Sparkwell was created a separate
parish, as part of the Anglican Diocese of Exeter, and the Rev. Pender Hodge-Cudlip became
it's first vicar.
The church was enlarged to accommodate the ever-growing congregation
before the turn of the century. The picture on our homepage shows the original building of
1859.The style of architecture is Early English.
The calm & beauty of the interior generates a sense of warmth, peace, and welcome to
the visitor.
Our worship and tradition is Catholic: -
Conserving the best of the old, & open and welcoming to the best of the new !
Our main service The Parish Mass is held every 2nd,
3rd & 4th Sundays at 11am.
On the first Sunday of each month Sung Matins replaces
the Eucharist.
Holy Communion is also celebrated during the week, on
Wednesdays at 10am.
Visitors are most welcome from all traditions & from all parts of the
world. There are a number of hotels close by. Please do e-mail us should you wish further
information.
We hope to meet you soon.
Rev. Fr. Freddy Denman. Vicar
